What do you do?
For residential, business and public-sector customers, we specialize in providing high speed Internet services using wireless and DSL technologies to in the rural areas of southern Ontario. We also build private networks.
Is wireless Internet secure ?
Yes. Everus has implemented triple layer security, and continuously monitors our network to ensure the highest level of data security for our customers. What this means is your traffic and information is as safe on our network as it would be on any other large service provider’s network.
Will I need a large antenna or dish on my house?
No. Our wireless customer premises equipment is smaller than TV antennae and satellite dishes. Wireless subscriber equipment is as small as 13"x 10"x 2" and generally not larger than 19".
Will I need to contract with a separate Internet Service Provider in addition to Everus Internet service?
No. In addition to full-service internet services, Everus supplies a minimum of five email addresses, and offers webmail access to all its customers.
How does Everus service compare to dialup or satellite service?
Dialup Service operates at 56kb/s.
Standard Everus wireless service is designed to operate at an average of 1mb/s, for both upload and download. Our best residential and small business service packages will allow your connection speed to burst up to 5Mb/s. Everus DSL service is asymmetrical, offering as much as 5mb/s down, and up to 700 kb/s upload speeds. DSL speeds may vary according to your distance from the serving Central Office, and the quality of the copper infrastructure serving your premises.
Compared to satellite, our service can offer much higher speeds, and eliminate the awful ‘freeze frame’ performance of satellite when voice and streaming audio and video applications are required.
How does Everus wireless service compare to cable or DSL Intenet service?
Everus wireless service is comparable to the cable or DSL available in rural areas, with a few important differences. From anywhere on our wireless network, you are just one hop away from our private network backbone, which improves the transmission speeds of our service. This means that one our wireless service, your web pages will load more quickly, and download speeds are comparable if not better than with rural cable or DSL services. If something does go wrong we will likely know as soon as or before you do; our Network Operations Centre proactively tracks any trouble signs in our network, and acts to resolve issues as soon as possible.
Can I run a server, or use File Sharing software as a supernode on Everus wireless internet?
NO. Everus does not allow residential customers to operate servers of any kind over our service, nor does it allow customers to use file sharing programs if these programs are set to act as supernodes. Violation of these policies will result in a warning by telephone or email for the first offense and, if these violations are not corrected within 24 hrs, our service will be suspended. If violation of this policy occurs a second time, the customer will be turned off in accordance with the terms of our Service Agreement. Note: These policies do not apply as written here to business accounts. Residential customers can make special arrangements with Everus to allow exceptions to the above, in which case we require additional equipment and safety measures to be applied, at a cost to you. These policies are in place to protect the online experience of all your neighbours on the Everus network.
Please note: Some wireless customers whose contract with us forbids this, or who are using Limited service accounts (limited to a maximum of 500Kb/s download), are not allowed to use file sharing programs.
Can I get web hosting services as well?
Yes. Everus Communications offers web hosting and web design service for a fee that varies according to your requirements.
Are there any health risks associated with wireless communications signals?
